Our adventure with walnuts began 5 years ago, when we tried to develop the land that we own in Poland. We wanted to do something that would also be environmentally friendly, thus we agreed to plant the walnut trees there.
We are working closely with other planters in Poland, and in the future, we would like to promote the planting of walnut trees in the UK. With our knowledge and experience, we are able to set up professional plantations from scratch. As experts in this field, we can advise on the type of cuttings, appropriate for the type of soil and climate, and we can help to plant them or run a whole plantation.
At the moment we are running 2 plantations with the best varieties of walnuts grafted in Poland. In 2021, we plan to establish the third, the largest plantation of the nuts.
Over the past few years, we have tried to find the right varieties of walnuts that would grow in the UK and Scandinavian climates. In 2017, we planted the first experimental tree in Alnmouth (Northumberland). The tree has been monitored and we spotted that it was growing very well in the local climate. This success inspired us to go a step further and to try plant other walnut species. We have recently decided to plant several different varieties of nut trees in Northumberland, to find out which are the most suitable for this climate, and then we are going to select the best tree species from which we can create large plantations in the future. We treat this joint project as an experimental plantation, which also serves the local community.
